Scarlett Johansson, Democrat, worries about Rick Santorum’s sweater vests

These are some new photos of Scarlett Johansson out in NYC last night with her brother Hunter. Hunter was her date for Runway To Win Launch fundraiser for Pres. Obama. Lots of fashion designers and Vogue people were at the event, but ScarJo was one of the few actresses. So she ended up getting a lot of face time with the media outlets covering the event, and she ended up sounding extremely vapid. Like, I understand that she was at a political fundraiser, and I’m not hating on her because she’s a staunch Democrat – those are my politics too! But I’m so wary of celebrities pontificating out of their ass about anything political, and I don’t think ScarJo is the brightest or the most eloquent of the Democrat celebrities, you know?

So, first off, Us Weekly had a story about Scarlett getting on her high horse about how she’s NOT going to go to fashion shows this year. She told Us Weekly, “You won’t see me at any fashion shows, I prefer to be much more low key. I just remembered it was that time of the year, I’ll need to stay away from Lincoln Center.” Girl, you’re at a fundraiser thrown by VOGUE. You’re also a “model” more than an actress, with several high-profile endorsement deals, several of them with fashion houses. Stop acting like you’re so “above” fashion.

The next fumble – Scarlett was asked about Pres. Obama and Michelle Obama’s style, and she said, “They’re both so stylish and they both have this casual, cool style that’s personal to them. They’re a really fashionable couple.” When asked about the Republicans fighting it out for their party’s nomination, Scarlett chose to discuss Rick Santorum… and his sweater vests. She said: “Oh gosh, so sad. My dad wore them and I mean they’re charming for family photos I guess and dinner with the grandparents. I think there’s an ironic way to wear a sweater vest but other than that I’m not sure.” So, Scarlett Johansson, self-appointed political advocate, can only discuss the president’s style, and the style of one of the Republicans. Because Santorum’s sweater vests are what’s disturbing, right? Not his agenda. It’s all about the vests. And remember, Scarlett’s so ABOVE fashion too.

And finally, when she was told that Republicans were criticizing the Vogue fundraiser as “elitist,” ScarJo replied, “Why would they say that? They are all so unfashionable. Let them say what they want!” She brought it back around to fashion. How vapid is this girl?

Damn. Look at how a family can produce a man so pretty and his sister so… well.. not to my tastes.

  2. Asli says:

Prop 8 was overturned! Yay! Scarlett is stupid. And Rick Santorum is a completely delusional ass. The world is yet again restored to its rightful place…

    • garvels says:

I never agree with Scarlett about politics but she is right about Santorum. The man has a god complex and he believes he can dictate to the world like Sarah Palin what one can and can’t do in the bedroom.

The GOP wonders why there is low voter turnout for the primaries and they are slow to realize that people like me have left the party due to Republicans like Santorum,Palin,Limbaugh and Gingrich.

  3. The Original Mia says:

She co-hosted the event with Anna Wintour. That’s why she got the face time. It was her party.

  4. Capella says:

That is beyond vapid. That twit does not do the Democratic party any favor.

It’s not because you boned a Penn, that you’ve learned to correctly hold one!

  5. mia girl says:

Silly little thing, but I read yesterday that Scarlett is set to star with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a movie he wrote and will direct. So when I started reading the sweater vest comment, I was “oh noes, you are going to offend your new boss – who often wear sweater vests!” But then, I guess she added ” I think there’s an ironic way to wear a sweater vest” and saved herself!

  6. Lis says:

I’m kind of glad she didn’t try to get all deep about politics. I don’t think she is smart enough (I think the same about most actors and actresses), and at least she had enough self awareness to keep it superficial.

And how evil is Santorum? Even this conservative Christian thinks he’s awful.

    • LL says:

You really think that her comments were due to self-awareness?

I think her comments were directly proportional to her level of intelligence.

      • Lis says:

I’m just grateful that she’s not trying to be deep and political, like so many celebs.

Maybe I’m so grateful it’s clouding my judgement. I just hate it when actors and actresses start trying to look smart. She’d be better off starring in some decent films.

  7. Tiffany27 says:

Of all the things she could say about Rick Santorum she talks about his sweater vest? I guess slobbing on Sean Penn’s fuck parts didn’t make her as smart as she hoped it would. I am beginning to detest this girl.

  8. barb333 says:

I hate it when “stars” try to talk politics like their opnions are so important to us and will “educate” us. That being said, she really isn’t that sharp is she? She probably thinks we all are so intrigued by what she said. Haha She is so funny when she thinks she is saying something smart., 🙂

  9. RobN says:

My opinions on most celebrities are pretty much I can take them or leave them, but I hate this chick. So smug and self-satisfied, so full of opinions on subjects she hears discussed at upper East Side parties. She’s Goop 2.0

  10. Jackson says:

Rick Santorum scares me but it has nothing to do with his sweater vests. And ScarJo, well, sometimes saying less is saying more. Say less next time.

  11. Shelly says:

Sorry, ScarJo. I am a Republican, and I am fashionable. Go read a book or something.

  12. Turd Fergussen says:

I’m a conservative and I am horrified by Rick Santorum. His primary wins make me ill.

    • blonde on the dock says:

Other than Ron Paul they all horrify me and I’m not American.

      • demian bichir says:

        Agreed.

      • Jover says:

Ron Paul is no prize he’s a smug amoral isolationist; the people of syria are fighting for their freedom and being slaughtered by the Assad regime and he hasn’t said a word otherwise unlike Hillary Clinton, and the fascist holocaust denying dictator of Iran is close to the atomic bomb and threatening Israel and major conflict and Ron Paul is unconcerned. Further, he deflects all criticism by wrapping himself in the American constitution; its a political and legal framework not the word of GOd with all the answers hidden inside and only Ron Paul knows the right interpretation. Many commentators have pointed out the Paul has been in and out of Congress since 1975 and not one piece of legislation he authored ever went anywhere;that he has been unable to convince his peers is telling.

      • Sunshine says:

Oh God, not another person that doesn’t know the difference between isolationism and non-interventionalism! Ron Paul wants to trade with countries, he doesn’t want to drop bombs on them and invade so that the war profiteers can steal more of our tax dollars while sending the bodies of our soldiers to Dover. Are you OK with these endless wars? Do you like wasting trillions of dollars on overseas entanglements while the needy and poor, and the 99%, get screwed?

Ron Paul may have his personal opinions on things like gay marriage (and they may not be sufficiently progressive for this crowd, that’s true) but he is not trying to deny people anything, he just wants the states to decide, which is constitutionally correct. Quite frankly, I don’t need to make windows into men’s souls as long as they preserve my freedom and liberty, and out of all the candidates, Ron Paul is the ONLY ONE who is dedicated to doing that. He’s been saying the same thing for the past 30 years, he’s not a flip-flopper, he’s not a cheat or a crook, but people won’t vote for him because he doesn’t want us to be Israel’s enforcer and at the mercy of AIPAC and the banker cartels. The media LOATHES him and if they hate him, that tells me he’s the guy who needs to be President. But I’m a crazy libertarian who doesn’t care what adults do as long as they leave me alone and don’t hurt anyone. I don’t feel the need to police others and try and force my opinions and beliefs onto others as so many on BOTH sides do. I stand for freedom and the one candidate who will defend TRUE freedom, and that is Ron Paul.

Yes I am a “Paultard” and proud of it! RON PAUL 2012 all the way!!

PS…why should we care about Israel and be their protector? We’ve sold and given them TRILLIONS of dollars worth of weapons, let them sink or swim on their own. I’m no fan of supporting such a brutal, ugly, genocidal country anyways. Their treatment of the Palestinians is abhorrent and should be earning them UN sanctions, but funnily enough, that never happens! Everyone is always up in arms about “human rights violations” for every country EXCEPT Israel. Funny how so many people blindly support such a vile country because the media has convinced them that Israel is our friend. LOL NO. And it’s especially funny because the blind Israel love is motivated by fundamentalist Christian beliefs, so you’d think such enlightened anti-religion crusaders would be aware of that and want to root out that little bit of church in our state affairs……

      • Asli says:

Agree completely, Sunshine. Saying Ron Paul’s an isolationist is like saying your neighbor is a hermit because he doesn’t come over unto your property and trashes your house. He wants to stop government-funding Israel. He doesn’t want to invade Iran, Which all of the other Republican candidates want to, because Iran has nuclear weapons. That’s their right. Russia, Pakistan even America has nuclear weapons. Why take that away from Iran?! Wouldn’t you want protection when all of the countries around is in a state of war? Saying Iran will attack is ridiculous. They haven’t been at war for over a hundred years. I read somewhere that the American government plans to blow up a US Battleship in the Persian Golf and blame it on Iran. Thus, giving them motive to invade. We’ll see…

He has said that religiously he is against homosexuality but professionally he is not to deny anyone their rights. Marriage is a RIGHT. Mitt Romney who is leading in the race to be the Republican presedential nominations wants to outlaw gay marriage and wants to appoint the Prop 8 new (anti-homosexuality) judges. He, Santorum and Gingrich to some point are some of the most dangerous men around. Honestly, I support Ron Paul and applaud Jon Stewart for helping the guy out and giving him publicity when the media is basically black-outing (Didn’t even know about him myslef until a month ago). LOL. I’m not even American but everyone knows that if America sneezes everybody gets a cold and we can’t have someone like Rick Santorum running your country.

Just my 2 cents (and I love America!)

    • demian bichir says:

OH!NO!Jover don’t tell me you believe the crap on tv about SYRIA!!!
The people in HOMS are terrified by the ALQAEDA terrorists not the Governement.
Imagine if OCCUPY WALL STREET was deciding to explose bombs in NY to protest against OBAMA would you find it cool.NO!I think OBAMA would send the army there to protect the civilians like ASSAD is doing NOW.

MANIFEST LIKE ANYONE ELSE IN THE STREET BUT DON’T KILL PEOPLE OK!!!

I hate HILLARY CLINTON she’s just a WARMONGER in disguise.

WORLPEACE!That shit is not funny to me.

      • Tina says:

Well, I guess you’ve never been in the middle east, or bothered to read up on the conflict.

      • demian bichir says:

LOL!TINA you tried it!But i forgive your ignorance on the subject. It’s not your fault if you’re not informed correctly by the media.
Have you ever been to Damascus? What do you know about the situation there to even speak in the name of people you don’t even know?Who are you to interfere in their affairs? You don’t know sh*t about the situation OKAY!

        TINA=LOONEY WARMONGER PROPAGANDA.

        WORLDPEACE!

      • Jover says:

You’re apologetics for tyranny are sad, but nothing new this phenomena has a long history before lenin’s time and many in the west have practiced and continue to practice it; to state that al queda and not Assad is killing the men, women and children of syria is wrong and false; i just watched eye witness accounts of syrian tanks firing into homs.
        Sunshine, your reference to Israel as a vile country borders on anti-semitism;
the dictators of Iran have called Israel a cancer; they stone adulterers and hang members of the gay community.
I’m surprisedd you’re vile and hateful comments were allowed on this site.
You’re arguments are devoid of facts – there is no “right” to possess nuclear arms, especially by a fundamentalist regime that tortures and kills it’s own people and threatens its neighbors. Selective moral and political indignation is a hallmark of right and left ideologues.

  13. HotPockets says:

Well, I remember the interview when they ask about her political efficacy and her response was something along the lines of, ” I already know what I am going to wear to the next white house dinner.”

That sums it up right there. I don’t understand why people identify so strongly with political parties anyways, it doesn’t matter what side of the fence you’re on, all that matters is the truth and we seem to have forgotten about that. Too many distractions, like fashion, of course.

  14. Julie says:

actors think they attention they receive make their words somewhat important and right.

celebs should use their recognisible faces to bring attention to important causes like poverty, aids and human rights but please keep those mouths shut up politics and especially dont advocate any political parties.

the guys down at the pub lead smartes dialogues after 15 beers than 99% of the actors.

  15. LL says:

I feel like this girl votes Obama because she thinks it’s the fashionable thing to do.

  16. Kara Ann says:

This whole Scarlett thing reminds me of a SNL sketch with Matthew McCona-however you spell it- wherein he is at a political rally but all the “in” people don’t seem to really care/know why they’re protesting. While he tries to rile them up they get confused and start chanting to “club the baby seals”! Off track I know but it was funny and it fits what I think of ScarJo’s politics to a tee!

  17. Marjalane says:

Please. Scarlett is always yammering on about how she’s only interested in “important issues”. Although, I do appreciate her starting a narrative about that disaster Santorum and his goofy sweater vests. More people need to be made aware of his crazy social views so he can be quickly dispatched back to wherever he came from.

  18. luls says:

    2 words fo Scarlett:

    BITCH PLEASE!

  19. lucy2 says:

I’m hoping she was just asked fashion related questions, because otherwise her comments seem pretty silly.

I do have to say, if the “elitist” criticism thing is going to be thrown around politics again, the GOP might want to reconsider running Mitt Romney.
    Santorum is awful.

  20. Nancy C. says:

    Love Her!!!

  21. Chatcat says:

I worry that her head is a reminder of those alien masks at Halloween. You’d think that with a head that big she’d have an IQ higher then 19!

  22. demian bichir says:

This event for Scarjo is like the superball for MDNA.
A big promotional stunt to make people believe that she’s still relevant.

She looks cute with her twin bro.

Is Rachel ROY F* the PREZ?She’s beautiful but why is she everywhere now?I mean this was her party NO?

  23. Jover says:

Please if the democratic party takes its advice from this twit they deserve to lose; does she even have a high school diploma; President Obama would be better served by going after hollywood and the entertainment “elite” not for the ostensible liberalism, but for the fact that they are 1 per centers and epitomize greed, narcissism and self-absorption which they disguise with their supposed liberalism, yet how many of them have cut back and inconvenienced themselves in these economic times and for the environment, etc. Very few, why does Obama hang with these people or believe he needs these buffoons?

  24. Tweakspotter says:

Typical of a Hollywood Democrat. Disconected and SIMPLY CLUELESS! At 25k a plate (average price to attend any Obama fundraiser) obviously only the ELITE would be able to attend.

Next time just smile and wave Scarjo.

  25. Kim says:

Yes because the most important thing about the leader of the free world is how fashionable he/she is. Surely this is what we should be concerned about (sarcasm).

Yet another celeb who doesnt know anything about politics so instead talks about the president and his wife being fashionable!

Im embarrassed for her & her lack of intelligence.

  26. Kim says:

Look up vapid in the dictionary & it shows her picture.

  27. lizzie says:

    looking good johanssons 😉

  28. Sasha says:

There are many reasons to dislike, disagree with, not vote for Santorum and the sweater vests are pretty unattractive, IMO. HOWEVER, clothing choices are just about the most shallow, vapid, dumbest reason in the world to criticize OR praise any politician.

  29. Sara says:

She was easier to like when she talked less.
